Entrepreneurship Democratizes Science

Entrepreneurship creates a space for all learners. It repositions science from the perception that it is an elite or isolated activity done by a few, into a tool accessible by everyone to solve problems that are important to them.
STEM entrepreneurship is the act of turning a STEM or science idea into a product or application for the community. This action requires more than just scientists and engineers. Using entrepreneurship as the platform to teach science shows all students there is a place and need for them in the STEM  ecosystem.

Entrepreneurs are Relatable Role Model

Entrepreneurs are the key to helping kids connect what they are learning in class to real-world applications and challenges they see every day. Entrepreneurs help kids from all backgrounds and learning abilities connect to science in a personal way, and see science as a tool they can use to tackle important issues, needs and challenges in their own lives.
Entrepreneurs represent the diversity of STEM professions and professionals, who demonstrate that grit & perseverance pay off in unexpected ways. They are on the front lines of innovation launching technology startups, conducting forward-looking research, creating new products to solve complex industrial and social challenges. Most important, their teams include both STEM-inclined and STEM-curious individuals.
Entrepreneurs demonstrate that science is more about creativity, asking questions, and finding solutions. They also introduce students to the broad range of career opportunities in companies and professions using STEM.

You can’t be what you can’t see

Famously attributed to Marian Wright Edelman (an American activist for children’s rights and under-represented Americans in general), the quote above highlights the importance of representation in a child’s development of self and what they believe is possible for their future.

CreositySpace believes in, and supports the importance of, representation. We consider it a priority when selecting featured, highlighted, and student entrepreneurs. While there is always room for improvement, we endeavor to do the following:
  • Select young entrepreneurs K-5 students can easily relate to; and
  • Select entrepreneurs who represent the diversity of people in science including, women, BIPOC, immigrants or non-native English-speakers, and those with physical challenges

Calling All Entrepreneurs & Innovators!

Kids decide what they want to be when they grow up based on what they see around them. At the moment they are bombarded with images of professional athletes, actors and pop stars. We need to provide them with other career examples and that's where you can play a powerful role in keeping kids interested in STEM from the beginning.
Share your story.  Stretch the imagination and curiosity of elementary kids.

"It is undeniable that there is a disconnect, especially at the elementary level, between technologies and companies that exist (or are on the rise) that have potential to change the way we view the world. It is tremendously beneficial for elementary students to learn about these technologies and companies." — Jason, Superintendent, Schodack, NY
